Second forum topic here, but please hold the "use the search function!" Comments, because I have. I just havnt quite found the answer yet.
Anyway... I am running a very slightly modified cobb stage 1 91oct HWG map and have been monitoring the fine knock and feedback knock values.
My car is a 2017 MT WRX with stock hardware.
I am running 92 octane (E10) gas but have noticed the once in a while (it's really hard to repeat the situation) I get a feedback knock number of -2.8°. it's not constant even at high boost WOT. Idk exactly when it happens because i can't seem to reproduce the results, even when mashing the throttle in high gear.
Is this bad? The fine knock stays at 0, and i haven't yet tried tracking the DAM, but will tonight.
My heat shielding is tight and I haven't tracked it on bumpy roads.
Sort of related question. Do any of you know how to download accesstuner on a second PC? I'm away from my PC for the weekend and just have this laptop that I never got around to installing it on.
I have been experiencing knock events when driving over bumps... I can be doing nothing but cruising at 45mph, and I go over some bumps, and my feedback knock moves -1.41 or -2.8.
I once have experienced -7 degrees on my feedback knock doing about 50 over some slight bumps in the road. Any ideas?
Please note that I have done multiple 0-60 tests, WOT tests on multiple gears. And tried to get it to knock by stomping on it when in a high gear. All of those tests the feedback knock stays at 0.00.
I'm not sure if this is a serious question, but it's an important one.
In high gear your engine is at a huge leverage disadvantage and it will build a higher load faster when you smash the skinny pedal. This can lead to excessive boost spikes and detonation from an increased combustion temp. It isn't advisable to flat foot the throttle in any over drive gear unless you are already at race car speeds. On the highway even at 70 or 80mph the load on the engine is tremendous.
First, "stomping on it in high gear" was kinda an exageration on my part. I haven't been doing low rpms, high gear, wot.
Second, I haven't posted logs because the only time I get these pings have been randomly during my hour to hour and a half long commute to work. I don't want to drop hour long logs on you guys. I have been logging my shorter trips and will post a log if it happens during one of those.
Finally, I think I kinda agree that it is normal noise/maybe sometimes bumps in the road at certain frequencies. I had a conversation with someone from Cobb tuning, and they seemed convinced that it is so.
Yeah, that probably true. Hopefully this thread will just be able to help others with the same questions that I had. Otherwise, I'd say this is resolved
