    ClubWRX WTF Tuned Cars

Now that we've got a few cars in the tuning process, I'm creating a thread to document them. The idea for this thread came from sponaugle from Nasioc. While I'm not sharing exact tables like he does (I don't want anyone trying to copy/paste the information and blowing their car up), I'll give as much information as I feel comfortable with.

Tuning a vehicle isn't black magic if you understand the basics of an internal combustion engine and electronic fuel injection. If you're going to be dealing with modifying the car to the point that ECU mapping is needed, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a general idea of what's involved, even if you don't tune the car yourself.

This thread will document some of the vehicles tuned owned by members of the site.

    Mikie13...

Mikie's STI was the first car I tuned that wasn't my own (locally or remotely). Since then, there have been a bunch of others, but there will always be a special place in my heart for that car. It ran well (until he drove it to it's watery death). He has recently picked up a 2012 WRX and a new Tactrix. I've sent him an initial map, so tuning should begin soon.

Initial flash and datalogs have been sent. Revisions are in progress.

Will approached me after being unhappy with a tune he received from another e-tuner. After a revision or two to cleanup that map, the issue was resolved, but I told him I would feel more comfortable if I just redid his map from scratch, since I didn't like the way the map was setup. He agreed, and we started the tuning process.

I set boost target to 17 PSI:

You'll notice a slight "spike" in the boost graph, in which the car was overshooting target by .25 PSI. Datalogs in both 3rd/4th gear show that it isn't really an issue, and the "overboost" doesn't go much higher in 4th than 3rd (<.5 PSI in 4th). For reference, Cobb has a 1 PSI variance in their map notes.

Ignition timing is set to 13-21:

Other than boost and ignition timing, the other three major table sets that were modified were AVCS, Open Loop Fueling, and Drive-By-Wire.

OL Fueling target was set to 10.8. With WBO2 data, I'll typically target 11-11.2 AFRs, but without having that information, I target a bit richer.

With AVCS, I based the mapping on the settings I run on my car; there isn't as much reversion during cruise, and the midrange is a bit more aggressive.

Lastly, the DBW settings. My DBW mapping is a bit more aggressive on the ramp rate, and a bit more linear.

From one of the last logs I received from Will:

Didn't touch smoothing, driver weight 175.

Isaac was a special case. He wanted to DIY tune his car, but he wanted someone to give him a second opinion; I had no problem with that proposal. I mailed him my typical S2 base map and told him to have fun. Throughout the course of the tune, he would datalog, and send me an email with his interpretations of the logs and we'd have a discussion before creating another revision. Unfortunately, this car was never finished, because it gave its life for his, but it was a fun journey.

Another special case. As the originator of the WTF Tuning name, he also wanted to get his hands a little bit dirty. I sent him an initial base map with some help from Ron (Donkey), and from there, he took off running. Some mechanical issues have slowed the tuning process, but it's still coming along. I'm going to reserve any information on the tune for him to disclose (he can edit the post).

What is there to say about Mark other than he loves sloots?

Mark reached out to me after experiencing some major knock issues with his Cobb AP map. There have been some ups and downs through the process, but it's coming along. The modification path has changed a few times during the course of the tuning process, but I believe we're finalized now. Basically, a S2+TMIC+Intake+Hybrid BCS setup, Mark will be targeting 20PSI in the midrange and tapering down towards redline. The tune isn't complete due to leaks getting fixed and rocks falling from the sky, but this should be finished soon, I hope.

Anthony came to me with issues with his S2+SF tune from Cobb. He had issues reaching target boost with the regular map, and after flashing to the HWG map, he had issues with some knock. He approached me about making him a custom map for his car, and I agreed. Tuning is still in progress on this car (he doesn't have a Tactrix cable, so it's when he can get his hands on one that logs come in).

    Boost is set to 18PSI:

Ignition Timing tuning is still in progress.

AVCS / DBW / OLF settings are similar to the way I have Wills car setup.

From one of the last logs I received:

Bruce approached me about helping him out with a tune after he added a TMIC and BPV to the car. I agreed, and we have proceeded from there. As with most S2+TMIC tunes, the end result will be a 20PSI boost target, tapering to redline. Having WBO2 input on this one will ensure that the tune runs well.

Zachs car has been a freak through the whole tuning process. Even with an incomplete tune, from what I've been able to tell, his car is faster than mine with less modifications. It's just a typical S2 tune, but his car takes far less WGDC other GR I've tuned. On top of that, his transmission has gone, his throw-out bearing has gone, and recently had an issue with his DBW setup. The tune is currently still a work-in-progress, but we will update when it's complete.

AVCS / DBW / OLF settings are similar to the way I have Wills car setup.

Tuning is currently on hold with this vehicle.
