Do I need to tune my ride?

I have 04 WRX with a SPT cat back. I won't to put a down pipe & up pipe kit on but don't know if I need to tune it after. I'm low on $$

You can do the uppipe without tuning, the downpipe needs to be tuned for.

i keep hearing no tune is required...even for a turboback. however obviously for some obvious power gains a tune would be required...but to have the exhaust no.

keeping in mind i got an STi 02.

02 and 03 tune is not "required," though it is recommended. The OP has a 2004, tune is required then.

Personally, even if a car doesn't REQUIRE a tune for a mod, if your spending over a couple hundred and its a performance part your purchasing, not tuning is almost like washing your car an hour before it rains... a bit of effort and essentially not much gain or improvement. If you're spending your money on something and are expecting a change out of the precious item, you mite as well go for all the possible gains.

That being said, a COBB AccessPort is a great base to build off of, I personally think.

I suppose nothing is "required".. but for 04+ WRX (USDM) installing an aftermarket downpipe without tuning will result in a blown engine sooner or later.

On 02-03 USDM bugeyes a Tune isn't necessarily required...but on a JDM spec STI, I'd be willing to bet that a tune is absolutely required, like almost all STIs.
