Okay so for any other noobs this http://www.romraider.com/RomRaider/H...ndKnockControl sums up the other ROM raider post so a quick read over this first then go into the other rom raider thread posted on here... I still am quite confused I'll have to re read that in the morning.

Also to clarify when timing is "pulled" does this mean the ignition of the spark plug is retarded? Also as for me tuning this map what does that entail?

No offense but you are severely lacking some basic fundamentals. You have a LONG way to go before you should even attempt to modify any of the ROM tables. You could very easily end up with a (insert value of car here) paperweight.

Also I think I may try to save some money and return cobb and try Tactrix cable using a map from OSecuroms & XPT Tuning Index page is this the best place to get maps? Also how does the Tactrix connect to the computer do I have to buy a cable separately?
But blowing your engine up would cost you ohhh soo much!
I found OSECU maps to be too aggressive for my old car. I had to detune the crap out of it. For not pay for their rom it, they'll do revisions to make sure its safe.

Yeah donkey you are right lol where else should I look to find info?

The cobb guy said that my data logs were pretty bad and that I should remove my spt intake right away. What should I do? I think I'm gonna go to tactrix anyway because its cheaper. But should I just try to sell the spt intake?

Pay someone to tune the car with the intake. Pretty easy solution. Plenty of info one tuning here:OPENSOURCE TUNING: Your questions answered here!!! RomRaider + Tactrix

What I was really trying to get at is that I am most likely going to return the Cobb Ap because I want to try to learn how to tune myself anyway so it doesn't make sense to pay for the cobb maps. So once I can tune I would like to tune for the SPT intake myself if possible, yes I realize I am far away from this. Should I flash back to the stock map to save my engine? I know the easiest route would be to have someone tune my car, but then I wouldn't learn....

And do you think that the OSECU maps will not be a good place to start for a novice tuner?

But you're ignoring the problem. There's a reason that your car is registering considerable and repeatable knock. While it COULD be that the Cobb map's timing is too advanced, it could be MANY other reasons. Reasons that would cause knock even on the stock tune. You need to understand WHY the car has the problems you're experiencing or take the car to someone who can help, else you'll likely experience engine failure. Frankly, you're too little too late. I would consult someone who understands engine dynamics to a greater degree than yourself. And for christ sakes, put the stock airbox back on until you can get a tune.

You are missing the whole point. At least you would have a safe running car and a custom map for your vehicle that you could use as a template. Also a good learning point as you could compare your custom map to a stock map to see the changes made. Considering it seems you don't know much about engines or engine troubleshooting nor even being able to datalog properly and interpret the data ,jumping straight into tuning is putting the cart before the wagon. Buy the books in the link I provided earlier and give them a read. This isn't something you are going to pick up and be proficient at in a week, month or even a year.

Yeah you right are I'll put the stock box back in. So do you think I should stick with the Cobb ap then?

Based on all the responses thus far, replace your intake to the stock unit and the appropriate Cobb map, and go visit a reputable local tuner to see: 1. Is the engine ok? 2. Is the compression alright? 3. Then check the Cobb tune is alright to run the CURRENT state if mods with a stock intake

I have no mods other than the intake. Also do you think I really need to get the car looked at if the car runs fine with the stock box?

I think you should if you were data logging at recommended rpm ranges.... Pings are bad on any charged motors, especially on mid to high rpm ranges.

If you haven't blown a head gasket then just go back to stock and plan your mods CAREFULLY

Just my 2cents but a couple of hundred bucks spent for a peace of mind is better than a several ks spent to repair or replace the motor....

Depends if the AP features offer you something useable. Not everybody has a laptop. Not everbody is computer savy. Not everybody can follow instructions to a "T". ALL are required to use Opensource.

Re: Cobb AccessPORT + AccessTUNER race vs Open Source

So I have decided to return the Cobb ap and am actually buying a new laptop with that money lol. I can't see spending money on a Tune that doesn't even run that great. Yes I know there was a problem with the spt intake but I still think I can get better results from a pro tune.

I will be doing more research into open source tuning (much more) before I look into tuning my car myself.
