Open Source Tuned..will I lose for good if I install a Cobb Map Via AP?

Header says it all really. Sorry if this is posted somewhere, i searched and couldnt find it, not even on Cobb's site. I have a great Opensource tune now but want to be able to use the AP for better fuel economy and then Unmarry to go back to OS. Question i have is...will it be my original OS tune or a Stock map...? Thanks! Is there a way to backup the Current Map?

If you're referring to the "Fuel Economy" map, it's useless. You get the same effect by keeping a light right foot. In fact, I have a fundamental problem with that map altogether... at least by keeping a light front foot, you can stay out of boost but still have that oomph when you need it. With the Fuel Economy map you'll just get caught with your pants down.

To answer your question, the AP stores your CURRENT map when it marries, so technically it will be your OS tune after it's unmarried.

I don't think the AP will give you better fuel economy, that is really all about how you drive. What makes you think you need to switch? If the OS tune is customized to your vehicle, that's the best you are going to get.

If you don't have your own copy of the map, then I think you would lose it, but I'm not sure how the AP stores what was on the ECU before marrying. Someone else more Cobb-savvy can probably answer that.

Thanks for the reply, I was referring in part to the economy map and partly in reference to my os tune which is set for e85 and WOT. So my thought was to try a stg2 91 map since its about the same cost as e85 here and get better mileage when I'm not racing then unmarry and have the os tune there for fun.

Instead of spending the $600 on an AP, why not get tuned on pump gas?

Well I like the ability to change, part of why im also getting a tactrix cable and learning all I can about open source. I got a ap v1 already from Isaac on here (Rambo) and am trying to get all the info I possibly can before I flash away and lose the custom tune I already have.

Ah, I see. I mean, you can do this. I don't recall how the AP v1 works, but I imagine it takes a snapshot of the EPROM just as the v2 does. It's too bad it's not a v2, for if it were, you could use AccessTuner Race to create a map from the OS rom data. There might be a way to convert from v2 to v1 roms... talk to Cobb
