Can you post a link of what you're looking at?

Nearly everyone gets either a Tactrix cable and directly uploads an open-source tune (either off the web or custom created by a tuner) to the ECU, or buys a Cobb Accessport and uploads either Cobb-created mapps or custom pro-tunes created by tuners for just their car.

I haven't heard of anyone using a "chip" or piggyback ECU, not to say people don't, but you'd be in the minority, for sure.

He is probably talking about the performance "chip" you buy on ebay that claims a million hp and 55% better gas mileage and only cost $7.

I figured as much, thus the reason I asked for a link. We'll see what they respond with.

haha not exactly a $7 ebay chip, and i dont expect my car to tripple in hp and never need to refill at the tank, honestly IDGAF about gas milage, but a few extra hp would be nice. the chip i was considering was

SUBARU IMPREZA WRX GF Peformance Chip

    OR

Subaru Impreza Performance Chips - Amazing Subaru Impreza Chips

and trust me, im well aware that 60hp is a load of bullsh*t.

You're going to be much better off going open source or buying an accessport. I know quite a few people who have WRXs, and no one uses these things. They're all scams, IMO.

Tactrix/open source and the Cobb AP are proven technologies by thousands of users.

There's a reason no one uses "chips". The last worth while performance chip for these cars was way back in the day when the TurboXS Unichip piggyback was about the only thing you could use to tune these cars, and I think all of those have fried by now.. they didn't seem to have a very long lifespan. Soon after that Cobb unlocked the ECU and began offering AccessECU tunes via shipping your ECU to them in SLC. I'm probably one of the only people here that still has an AccessECU sticker on their ECU.
