Cut out problem need help!!!!!!! Anyone??

I have a cut out problem, I have 02 wrx and my car keeps cutting out and shutting off. I had a cold air intake but I took it off and bought a factory air box because I heard that the air flow from a cold air can cause the maf to read wrong, well the factory air box was installed and I still have the same problem.
    Where should I begin???

Anything you've recently added to the car? What kind of maintenance have you done? Fuel filter? Spark plugs?

Describe in detail exactly what's happening if you can please.

I'm a new Subaru owner traded my rocket or this one only 2 months ago. So alot of tHe history idk. Ok, so primarily when I'm in boost it will cut out after it's peaked or even shut off for a moment. But it's seems to happen every now an then at any point.
We are going to try a fuel pressure test next time I'm off to start and see if that could be the source. If it is I'll replace the ff, where is it btw? In line or in tank? (02 wrx)

    If you have zero codes....

    Shut off all vehicle electronics

Disconnect positive battery cable for a few minutes

    Reconnect battery cable

Start car, let idle for 10 minutes.. Do not touch throttle, stereo, electronics of any kind.

Go for a drive, see how it runs.

It could be a messed up air ratio your computer learned while running the intake now it is messed up because you put the stock back on. Otherwise check your fuel filter.

If you don't know the history of the vehicle, I would do a quick tune up anyways. Spark plugs and fuel filter for starters, fluids a bit later once you have this sorted out.

The fuel filter is right under the hood near the fire wall. It's a canister looking things with two 90 degree fittings coming out of it, can't really miss it since it's right on top there by the brake master cylinder.

I should of thought of the computer reset.. Thanks I'll give that a try when we can get back to it..
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated, or places to start looking else where. Thanks guys keep it comming so I can have a good amount of ideas to try and not replace part after part until I find it was something simple and free to try. Thanks

It really is a good place to start.

Also, did the problem start before or after this tank of gas?

Bummer, I was kinda hoping to say bad gas, but that's not going to be the case here. It's best you do a tuneup anyways considering the mileage and lack of maintenance history, so even if it doesn't fix the immediate problem, it still needs to be done.

If you changed intakes there's a chance you installed the MAF incorrectly. The harness for the MAF faces forward. This is not intuitive; I'd have guessed it faces backward but forward is correct. It's a tight stretch. Also make sure it's clipped in snug and that the MAF itself is seated correctly.

Ok let me go back on what I first said, the cutting out only happens in boost and when I'm really in it. Not at 3500-4k but after that is when it cuts out, not like a miss fire but like a shut down for a moment then it's fine. Some times it completely shuts down for a few seconds.
And on the maf your right, I put it in backwards at first. Then noticed that the wires had some slack in it the turned it around where the cable wraps around and the cable had a natural bend in it that made it almost fall into place. So your right on that part
