Loading Custom AP Maps

Did a search, but came up with nothing useful. I have a Cobb AP, and currently have the stage II 93 octane map loaded in my car. I will be installing a TXS TMIC and heard that I really should get a custom map made for that, so I had PDX Tuning make and email me a set of maps. Now I'm trying to load the maps onto my AP but am having difficulty.

I was able to move the maps to the library in the AP Manager software. Then I plug my AP into my computer using the USB cable. The AP comes on and gives me the menu. When I try to export the maps to the AP nothing happens.

The only thing I can come up with is that in the AP instructions it says that "The AP must be installed on the vehicle before it can be connected to the AP Manager software." Does this mean that I have to upload the new map to the AP while the AP is plugged into my car? I've loaded custom maps to the SCT tuner I have for my truck and it can all be done with the tuner and my computer. If I have to connect the AP to my car and the computer at the same time I'm going to have to move everything over to my laptop. Can someone verify this procedure for me?

I only had an APv1 and now use opensource so I can't answer all your questions but you definitely do not need to load the map to the AP while it is in the car.

It seemed preposterous that it would be required to have the computer hooked up to the AP while it was connected to the car. I wonder what the issue could be. I didn't restart my computer after installing the AP software, but it didn't say it was required. I think I'll try that first and see what happens. I'll post back if I figure it out, until then any other ideas?

I think I figured it out. My computer was not recognizing the AP, and consequently was not connecting to it. For future reference, and so that this helps anyone who has the same problem as I did, go into "Advanced" in the AP Manager Software (third icon in the menu under the "file", "view", and "help" toolbar) . If it comes up as "not connected" your computer is not recognizing the device. When it's connected your AP will show "connected" on the display, and in "Advanced" in the AP Manager software you will see a list of all the maps currently loaded into the AP.

If you are not connected simply allow the New Hardware Wizard in Windows (I am running XP, but I'm sure that other versions are similar) to recognize the AP. Don't let it search the internet for a driver. Put the COBB CD in the CD drive, I'm not sure if it pulled the driver from the CD or somewhere else, but it didn't hurt to have it available in case that's where it got it from. Once I ran through the wizard it all seems to work.

I won't know for 100% sure until I try to reflash my car with the new map, but I will post back if there's any problem.

Also for people running Vista, you have to install as "Admin" .Both for Vista and XP ,as TKO said, manually load the drivers. Same problem happens with people trying to use the Opensource software/Taxtrix cable.

To the OP, have you had any luck with these maps.....
How was your E-Tune map setup from PDX Tuning. How did you like the map package, reason I ask is I purchased a package as well. Havent recieved it yet but just very eager. I was just looking for a little more out of my Stage II setup and could not afford a 500+ tune from a shop where I have heard some not so positive things. So for the 125 I paid for an E-Tune package with 4 different maps I am really excited to feel the outcome of my purchase. Any info is good info...

I did this with PDX on my first 05 and my 03 and it turned out pretty good. I did however get the 03 retuned later and gained a substantial increase.. But I do recommend it if you cant come up with the funds or are saving for more parts and a custom dyno tune.

This was my exact reason for doing the E-Tune, I plan on getting either a better TMIC, or FMIC (havent decided yet) larger injectors, fuel pump and larger turbo. So I didnt want to spend 500+ on my vehcile when I am already pretty happy with my OTS Stage II. I just wanted to see a little more out of the vehicle for the time being while I save and purchase parts. I will post after I have recieved and loaded new maps... I feel like a kid waiting for a present.... cant wait for my new map.

The tune has worked well. I'm still working on hitting target boost (haven't had time to check the effects of adjusting the wastegate arm yet). Then I'm going to datalog, send the logs to PDX and see if they want to tweak anything. All in all, for the price it's pretty good though.

I also have had tunes made for my Diesel like this and they were always way better than the stock tunes in my SCT.
