Can I Change Vehicle Type in AP v1?

I bought a used, unmarried AP v1 off eBay. I couldn't pass it up. However, I can't load maps onto the nasty little thing because it is a "2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STi AccessPort." Damn.

Can I reformat the thing to be for a 2005 WRX or am I screwed? If I can't load, she'll be going up for sale shortly!

No kidding? Hmm. I would like a couple more second opinions before I set it up for sale.

There was no need for even a first opinion. Just call COBB and tell them what's up and they will help you out.

i know if you buy a married AP, they charge 300 dollars or so just to unmarry it (atleast thats what i've heard)

so i'd assume switching vehicle types would be the same, if not more expensive.

i think it would just be easier to sell it and buy the correct AP for your vehicle.

They also have the trade in program where you send them your v1 + cash and they send you a v2. So depending on how much he paid for the v1 that may be worth it. But I don't know if they make you prove that you are the original owner or anything.

Sounds good. I will just force myself to be patient and wait until Monday and call Cobb.

    Thanks!

Being rather new at the AP game, I thought that the the devices were vehicle model SPAN specific, meaning the AP would work for 2004-2005 models, both WRX and STi. Well, not at all. I took a chance, but I knew if it didn't work, it will sell no problem and I could at least get my money back.

Kudos to Cobb. It's not like they're a dumb company, haha! They made them vehicle specific for a reason. More $$$ in their pockets!

    'zactly..

Yeah, some of their stuff is controversially "too strict", and for my application, wasn't quite flexible enough, even with StreetTUNER add-on..

But yeah, used ones go pretty quickly..

Just to give some clarity on this situation,

    * The AccessPORT relicensing fee is $395
    * Trade-In will get you up to $200 credit towards a new AP
    * We can't change original AccessPORT applications (WRX->STi)
    * You do not need proof of purchase for the trade-in or relicensing.

The relicense fee does have some flexibility, if something happens that is totally out of your control (stolen or wrecked vehicle, for instance). This is handled on a case-by-case basis and you'll just need to contact us should it occur.

Because I'm unsure, what is the layperson's term for "relicensing".

Does that mean unmarrying an AP if you had the misfortune of buying a married one used? Or does that mean changing the model year of the v1 AP? Or both?

He said you can't change the application (or model of car)

Sorry, but you might as well sell it or trade it in...
