    Aftermarket mufflers illegal in PA?

So I got pulled over last week for speeding. There's Nothing like a $120 fine to spoil your week. I was really cool with the cop untill he told me my exaust was illegal. I told him it wasn't it was well under the 90db limit, he said it didn't matter it was still illegal. He said ANY muffler that is not factory stock is illegal. I called BS untill I asked another cop from another area. He said the same thing. So my question is how the hell companys advetise and selll their products as 50 state legal when any exaust modification is Illegal in PA.. I live in the country where every redneck truck and ricer has got an exhaust twice as loud as mine. Now I'm screwed because I no longer have my stock exhaust. What the hell?

Did you see Table 1 section 3?
"3) Any other motor vehicle and any combination of vehicles towed by such motor vehicles."

Y'all have 82db max (soft site) and 84 db max (hard site)... NOT 90 db
Factory is 86 db, so you're exempt, but you aren't cause you got aftermarket.
The cop might not be off on his assessment

That can't be right. What if you had a '72 Pinto that doesn't have the factory muffler? Sounds like bs to me too. I'd do some more searching, maybe penndot's website.

if i remember correctly, PA is working on changing the law to something similar to this:

    1) If the car was made after xxxx date, you must only put OEM cats on the car
    2) You may only change exhaust parts if they become defective

I am not sure if #2 is in effect yet, it might be. If so, they could get you on that, unless you just said you hit something and broke your muffler
