    Maine Forest ProRally 2003 (8/1 - 8/2) Trip Planning

Many of us from the Mid-Atlantic Region will be car pooling/caravaning to Rumford for the Maine Forest Rally this year.

The quickest route from my home is the PA turnpike to the NJ turnpike to the Garden State Parkway to I-87 East to SR15 to I-91 to I-84 to I-90 to I-495 to SR4 to SR108 to Rumford. Looks to be about an 8 hour drive.

I'm not 100% sure what we are doing for lodging at this point, but if I find a hotel nearby, I will likely reserve a few rooms planning on 2-3 people per room. I plan to volunteer, as I did at STPR this year, because IMO, it is the only way to experience a ProRally.

If you are interested in joining our car pool/caravan post here!

    -Jim

LOL: Platinum Performer sounds like a vibrator. Around here she's known as "Car Zero." Short for PPM Car No. 000; Eventually I'm going to have all of my AutoSpeed trim piece engraved with PPM #000.

RoRR stands though! I'm hoping for a maximum of two to a car and I think that'll happen. If not, I'll have to reinstall my rear seat belts.

Are people going to bring those walkie-talkies? Or CBs or what?

Chris, I have a pair of Motorola talk abouts for the rally, but when we are in our cars, Andy, Bunny, and I will be using our CBs. I gotta get with McDade and go get mine!! Somebody tell him to call me!

Matt, Volunteering's hardest requirement is waking up in the morning. You go to your marshal's meeting and from there on it is basically a blast. You drive on the rally course from spectator point to spectator point and watch the rally while keeping the unrulely crowd from wandering haplessly in front of a speeding rally car. The new safety requirements are a little silly IMO, but very easy to enforce. If you come out, you SHOULD volunteer. The best way to spectate at a ProRally is to participate in the ProRally!

I could definitely help. I'm a licensed amateur radio operator. KB1BIZ - Nobody Beats the Biz. Wait, they want 2m and I'm a novice instead of no-code technician. Oh well. I'm potentially down for this, with the usual caveat that my car has to work.

    Jim-

Post the link where people can sign up to work, please. While spectating was fun, I have a feeling that you get a better perspective from the other side of the yellow tape
