Keep in mind the legal tint is really 70%.

    50%, cops don't care
    35%, cops don't care
    20%, now you're pushing it

    Tint Laws in Pa

first of all, the nothing below 70% in PA isnt true...go to this website to read the actual PA law http://www.berksweb.com/users/dmv/tint/

It actually states that as long as a person is able to see into the car through at least ONE window, it is still legal, and such an argument will hold up in court if you get a ticket. Basically this means that legally..you can tint every window on your car as much as you want as long as you have ONE window with no tint, usually the windshield. I have 35% on my driver and passenger windows, and 4% (limo tint) on my rear side windows and rear window. My windshield remains completely untinted. I have never even been looked at twice by a cop and ive had em on for over a year and a half. I like the way they look, but if I could do it again i would get the driver and passenger windows 15% or lower, I think 35% is too light. Believe me, im paranoid and I made sure mine was totally legal by the PA statute before getting anything done. A lot of detail shops will tell you that they wont do anything more than 35%...if they say that, keep movin. Also try to find one that has a lifetime warranty. Good Luck

    Laws are getting stricker...

FYI... the laws for car modications and customization are going to be getting a HECK of a lot stricker. Also, what you can get away with in ONE area (say Phily) you can't get away with in another area (say out here in Pitt).

CASE IN POINT: A friend of mine had heavy tint on here car and NEVER got pulled over in Philly where she's from.... but two days after she came out here to school she got pulled over.

CASE IN POINT #2: I Never get pulled over for my system out here in PItt... but if i have it cranked (and my system isn't all that loud) in my home town in PA i'll have two cars at least pulling me over.

Reasoning?... well... there are a lot. One, just cause the state law says something, doesn't mean there might be a local ordinance that states something strickers (there is a town in PA where ANY tint is illegal). Same way with Exhuast... what passes by my 'rents place, won't pass out here in PItt.

Short of the Long... my .02 would be to keep it within the limits of the law... 'cause you may not get pulled over today, tomorrow or next week... but some day, somewhere you may get pulled over. And if the NEW state law passes, your car will not be able to pass inspection with illegal tint... and some higher ups are pushing for anything that isn't "from the factory" meaning any aftermarket perfromance parts, suspsensions kits (higher, or lower), exhuast, etc. And the fines are going up too... some are doubling.

Just an FYI. My father's was a Police Commisioner and since i am into cars, I get the 'fatherly' talk all the time and what the letter of the law is. Also, everyone i know with custom cars (including myself) has been pulled over at one point in time for various violations... and that is under the current laws... who knows what it will be like when things get stricker. Basically, it boils down to money making for the state at our expense.. Oh well...
