    NJ Emissions Inspection

I have an '02 WRX and Im wondering if any of you Jersey guys know what it takes to pass inspection.... I checked on the DMV site and I can't find anything. I'm looking to go stage 2 this summer and am trying to decide whether or not to go catted or catless with my DP. I'd like to save some money, so catless and using the extra money to port the WG seems like a good option, but will I have to pull the DP off and put the OEM one back on when I need to pass emissions? How are you guys getting away with this. The other 2 options I've thought of were to get a catless pipe and have a shop weld in a HF cat... Anyone know how much this will cost in the end? does it make more sense to just get the catted DP? my third option is to go to a private inspector and slip him a 50 everytime I need to get inspected.

Comments are not only welcome, but needed

    I passed last year catless.

They just check the obdII for codes...with the AP, youll be fine, just dont reset the ECU anytime close to when youre getting inspected. All your sensors have to be in the "ready" state. On newer cars (I think 98 and up or something) they just use OBD, not the sniffer.

As for your other questions, dont bother welding one in, if you want a cat, get one with a high flow already in it. Also, if youre gonna go cobb stage 2, dont touch your wastegate.

    +1

You only need to port the WG if you are going stage 2 with a 2.5 L engine and no cats.

ok, thanks guys.... I think I'm gonna go catless then. Do you guys think I'm gonna have to worry about boost creep on a '02? Tyler, when you gonna be around, we should go for a drive sometime, I'm getting home on fec 16, but I'm going to the victory meet on saturday. Any other time is straight though.

no, you shouldnt have to worry about creep...its mainly the 2.5's since they flow a lot more exhaust gas, and use the same size wastegate (td04 on both the ej20 and ej25).

Im at school in Delaware, not sure when I'll be home, but just pm me your cell or something and ill give you a call.
