For those who use home heating oil: do you buy contracts?

It is that time of year again when my oil supplier sends out a limited time offer to lock in prices through 6/2007. Does anyone here do this? Good? Bad? Ugly?

I've purchased oil for the winter each of the last 3 summers and I haven't regretted it. Each winter, prices stayed the same or went up. That's not a garauntee that it'll happen again this winter but there's something to be said for peace of mind, knowing that you won't get screwed and/or freeze in February.

Even if prices stay the same, you're only losing a couple bucks of interest by pre-paying in leiu of putting the $$ in a savings acct.

Thanks. I did it one year and it worked out OK. I have a new contract sitting on my desk now. Still on the fence ...

+1. The downside to this is I get many offers from different oil companies to lock into their offer, and 9 out of 10 times I get an offer that is very good, and then 2 wks later I get another offer that is better than the first and I am stuck with the other. I am planning on going with a ductless heating/cooling system to eliminate the need for oil totally. But I dont know if that is going to be finished by this winter so I am gonna have to prob. go contract with an oil company again this yr

We are on a budget plan. I can't remember what we locked in at, but it's like $120 a month...
