    Philly SCCA Road Rallies

Hey guys/gals just wanted to let anyone know who lives in the Philly area, this year Philly SCCA has 5 road rallies planned. These road rallies are a whole lot of fun that anyone can come to. You don't need a 500whp car to enjoy the event. If you aren't sure what road rallies are, they are a time and distance competition that is performed on rural public roads at legal speeds using “daily driver” vehicles. It’s more challenging than you might think! So be sure to check out PhillySCCA.com | Home of the Philadelphia Region of the SCCA for the schedule and come on out for a great time with some great people.

I was thinking of trying one or two of those this year. Seems like it would be fun

A few years ago when one of our Philly region members was inspired by some of the West Coast Grand Tour style rally events and wanted to grab a few of us and go for a driving weekend. A handful of us grabbed some camping gear and departed the Quakertown, PA early on Saturday. We crossed the Lehigh Valley, drove through the coal region, went through the Susquehanna Valley and spent the night in Wellsboro, PA (a town that loves rally). The crew spent the night tent camping and arose the next morning for the rally home. Both days were an incredible experience and a tradition was born. Since the 1st year was such a blast, we planned a trip for the following year. The route was tweaked a bit but the idea remained the: the joy of driving the open roads of PA.

This year the summer grand tours have gone legitimate under the revised social rally rules (no more time limit on the event). The Wounded Turkey and Homeward Bound Grand Tours will be June 28 and 29th. We'll be departing early on the 28th and arrive in Wellsboro, PA in time for recounting the day's events around dinner. We'll be back in the Philly area in the late afternoon of the 29th. This event has no tricks in the instructions. If you can read a Google map and can follow a state route, you will have fun. Most of the time you will see the car in front of you during the event (you won't get lost).
This tour has some serious seat time. You and your teammate had better get along and both of you should be able to drive the car you use. You will likely cover in excess of 500 miles over the weekend so you car had better be up to it as well. Most of the roads are paved but don't be surprised if there are a few dirt roads here and there. Nothing requiring a 450 whp Evo on gravel setup (but that would be cool anyway).

We've limited this event to just 10 teams as this is our first year running an event of this length so if you are interested, please PM me or email the program chair at m.bs627@gmail.com before you register. As I write this today there are 6 open spots for the event.

There's no score in this rally, just smiles for miles. Everyone wins on a drive this fun. If you like back roads and have a weekend to kill, sign up.

Come out this weekend. Unless you plan on hardparkin' at a WalMart. That would be too much fun too miss.

We've got a great event planned for Sunday, August 3rd. This will be a 70 mile gimmick rally that starts in the Doylestown, PA area and winds us through the rural areas out near Bucks County's River Country. First cars are off at 11:00 Am and we plan on arriving at our final destination about 3 hours later in Ottsville. This is a social rally so it won't count for SCCA point but it is also very affordable ($10.00 for SCCA members, $12.00 for non-members).

The roads on this rally are quite entertaining. You won't need anything more than a street-legal car & a team mate. This rally is very novice-friendly, too. Please feel free to DM me with any questions.

We've got one lat rally for the season this Saturday. It's a easy to follow gimmick rally starting in Washingtons Crossing and ending near Perkasie. Your checkpoints will be orchards ad farmers markets. It's also super cheap to enter. Come out and drive with us and put off those household chores.
