Radar Detector Questions (Mainly for you NJ folks)

So I just order a new WRX and now I'm starting to buy some extra for my new baby. One of the first things I want to buy is a radar detector (don't worry I won't be an idiot and go 100 just because I have radar detector) (and yes I have used the search bar was hoping to get some advice from people in the NJ area). I've basically narrowed it down to two different ones: (1) Escort 8500 X50 and (2) Valentine One. Price isn't of concern since the one is ~$340 and the other is ~$400, sixty bucks isn't of concern I just want the best. A little background, I am currently living in NJ where they mainly use X-Band so my first question is: Is one better for X-Band than the other? I do not plan to be in NJ for more than a couple of years so an overal opinion of the two is appreciated. Finally I know cops have been getting better at beating these detectors so if anyone has first hand experience of one of these starting to perform worse over the past few year that would be great. Any other useful info, such as one is really loud, can't hurt.

The Valentine One is amazing! I've been driving down to South Carolina from NJ multiple times a year for 3 years now with the V1 and I just got my first ticket this year because I was hit with a direct laser (there isn't anything a standard radar detector can do about that without purchasing a $$$crambler to go with it).

I haven't used the Escort before but the V1 can warn you when they are miles away and it shows the direction (in front / behind you).

Also daily driving in NJ and Philly with no problems.

Seeing that many of the state police now use LIDAR, a regular old radar detector won't do much for you. Also now that more luxury cars are coming with radar for brake/collision warnings, it may go off constantly (my gf's does all the time.)

I have not bothered to get one. I feel like letting someone else speed ahead of you is a good way to ensure they get snagged rather than you (unless your car attracts unwanted attention.)
