bump for teh votes.
taking a run out today in a few we'll see how it goes.
Yesterday was.... rough.
My unfamiliarity with the first half of the route led to me getting turned around a few times, my GPS being a liar and either telling me I was on a different road than I was on or having no idea there was even a road where I was didn't help at all. I also had some very very rough run-ins with potholes, rather violent slams due to the road being wonderfully flat and open for a long distance and then all.of.the.pot.holes. I'm not sure whether it was an issue with the moist sand, or running on summers instead of winters but the parts I was familiar with felt (and looked) like someone had purposely ran through it to generate a rumble strip effect to slow people down. What it all adds up to is a very disappointing and jarring run (for the day).
With that said, I feel uncomfortable leading anyone in there with my unfamiliarity with the roads (where to turn/where the bad spots are) and how rough the parts I actually knew were. I would hate causing real damage to my car, but I would hate even more being the cause of damage to someone else's.
Don't let one bad run discourage you man!
If you want to go back out and try to find a new route just let me know, I'm always down to go out there if I'm free.

In all seriousness though, we've generally been trying to find very car friendly roads that aren't difficult to navigate and we won't struggle getting through. The day that Jordan, my friend and I went out there we found some great roads and were out there for about 6hrs. We didn't go through anything that a camry couldn't make it though. The hard thing is finding roads that we can go faster on, more rally style, that don't have fiant potholes or rumble strips.

I gotta disagree with you as well. We're not looking to go rock crawling or mudding, just travel some of the unpaved back roads of the Pine Barrens. If you know the area you know its relatively flat and mostly a combo of sand and dirt. Good conditions for a AWD car. I know my car is not an actual rally car, so I have no plans to run through like I'm rallying. Just looking forward to a run through some cool spaces that aren't highway and meet a few board members.
That said - I'm still in and would hold nobody accountable for my car but myself. Let's get a date set and go for it. A few wrong turns and backtracks adds to the experience anyway.![]()
