Does anyone know if automobile registration in NJ is now annual?? I thought it was biennial (every two years)... have they changed this??
I just got a registration notice and thought "that can't be right" but sure enough my current registration is set to expire in May 2010, one year after it was renewed.
I checked their website which is vague to say the least.
"In New Jersey, most vehicles must apply for an annual registration renewal."
State of New Jersey - Motor Vehicle Commission
Anyone have any info on this?? Was it changed or am I out of my mind??
Thanks!

I just called the MVC (and got a very nice woman on the phone without even being put on hold! They really have improved this department, at least some).
She told me that registration has always been annual, and inspection biennial.
Well... there goes the tax refundlol

I thought you lived in NJ? Where have you been?
Car is $60/year, as is each bike now.

Beats me. I can't even find any information on what the cost breakdown is.

LOL
No I've got about 12/36 months left... but I can't imagine that would have any bearing on registration cost. Maybe I'll pay it off and then go to MVC and see if that helps!
This is the only fee schedule I've found which sort of makes sense for your cars... +$2.00 convenience fee perhaps. But my $59 is in the middle of nowhere on this!

Or, if I could actually follow the lines from left to right, I'd see that my 2009 vehicle falls into the $59 category.
Absurd... I still feel like I'm being screwed, but at least now I know how and why!![]()
