The Anthracite Blitz 1-10-2009 (Centralia)

Here's the deal:

What: It's the Anthracite Blitz (AKA The Centralia Meet, take 2).

Who: Anyone with a car that has an appreciation for AWD, turbocharged econoboxes.

Where: We're meeting on South Street in Centralia in Columbia County, PA. Look it up in Google Maps. If you ask where it is, you will be mocked. There's not much left of Centralia so you will find us just by finding the town.

When: We're meeting at 11:30 on Saturday, January 10, 2009 rain/shine/snow/sleet or cold. The cruise will take about 2 hours depending on conditions, then we eat.

Why: To sample some of the fun PAVED roads in the areas around Mahanoy/Line Mountains and to eat some food and share in AWD camaraderie.

A few tidbits: This is a cruise, everyone will be given the final route, printed out with notes. There will be no excessive speeding, however this will be a fun run, kna mean?

I won't be organizing any type of caravan from any others points to Centralia only because I'll be up there nice and early, however this is encouraged.

If it's a nice day, might be cool to stop at Shamokin/Bear Valley strip mine for some cool pics if theres time... Not of the cars on the dirt road, but at the Whaleback if some people haven't been there before. Just throwing that out there, or maybe it's just interesting to me since I'm a geologist and we had many many field trips there during my classes at Lehigh Cool place for pics and fossil hunting (guess I'm a nerd . haha)

cool, sounds good to me. I'll definitely be going there since it's so close. I'll be coming from Bethlehem so it's about 1.5 hrs to Centralia, might as well hit Shamokin while I'm out there!

So from the "WHO:" part of the first post, is this just a Subaru thing or any AWD thing? My buddy wants to know if he should ride with me or drive separately in his new car -- Audi RS4. It fits the first half of the criteria but is N/A

I'll probably be hitting Shamokin before Centralia for some fossil hunting and so that there's good light for pictures. If anyone's coming from the Lehigh Valley area we can ride out together, but I'll be planning on being there around 9:30 or 10ish... guess that means I'll be on the road by 7:30-8

If you're interested, it's a bit of a rough dirt road on the way in (my car will make all of yours look clean then!) but it's worth it. The "entrance" aka the dirt road I park along to get in to the Whaleback is located here:
