    my first auto-x

this entire summer i've been talking about getting involved in auto-x. so i'll be going to either E-town on Saturday or Nassau on Sunday.

Any tips and pointers for a noob? will i be seeing any of you guys? I bought a helmet on ebay for 45 bucks. Are there any papers i should have ready before reaching the site? What time should i reach?

As far as my car? I know i need to take any loose items out of my car. should i tape down the front bumper before i get there (i will be hitting cones)

Gas? is it okey to use less then half a tank? or will all that sloshing around cause problems to the fuel pump?

If you guys have any other suggestions please let me know.

The reflash puts you in ESP. Everything else is fine for STX.

You'll be fine with even a quarter tank of gas.

Check out the region's website in which you're running. They will have info on when to show up etc.

Tape the front end to protect the paint from scuffs. The cones don't really scuff that bad, but it can be noticable.

    Tips:

    1. Bring water! Also lunch if you need to.
    2. Air pressure. You will most likely need to run higher tire pressures for autox. 40-45 is not uncommon.
    3. Don't be afraid to ask questions when you're there. Most of the other people running will be glad to help.
    4. Use the instructors if they are offered.
    5. Have fun.

As someone who was there not long ago...

    Ask questions.
If you know someone there, get them to walk the course with you...(the buddy system, so to speak)

    Have fun!

Even losing is fun. (I should know, as wagone whips me everytime )

Make sure you get there early enough to walk through the course plenty of times.

Bring a pencil and paper and sketch the course to go over and make notes on, if you want to.

Ask the instructors to sit in the car with you for your first few runs. It is really helpful

Don't launch your car. There is no need for it since you most likely won't be competitive in your class since it's your first time, and don't pull up close behing the cars in front of you when you are waiting to run (they might kick up rocks when they start).

Remove everything from inside of your car ahead of time that you won't need, since tech inspection will make you do it anyway.

remove your carpets, slide your seat forward so you are fully seated against the back of your seat and have the steering wheel relatively close to your body and try to get used to driving that way.

Brake before the turn, always look ahead in the course, never break while turning (it will unsettle the car)

I've only autox'd once, but this is the advice that i have been given or think will be helpful

so i'm no longer an auto-x virgen. I ran once with an instructor. basicly just told me where to go, didn't really give many pointers. I went off course a couple of times.

In short. I'm addicted. Can't wait until I can go again. It was a blast!

There's a WRX Vs. EVO day next saturday at E-town. I'm going to try to make it there.

the instructor didnt give you any pointers? Most of the pointers i suggested in my post were told to me by an instructor at e-town.

he was a nice guy, once he got in my car he didnt say anything until i started to ask questions. i made the mistake of driving with one hand on my shift knob (out of habbit) and he pointed it out to me but thats about it.
