You are saying the 06 center diff is 1.1:1 on the STi Tranny? I know the 07 STi tranny has a center diff of 1.1:1(so Ive been told) which makes it almost a direct swap into a WRX, the rear does not have to be changed. Why did you change the rear with the 06 STi tranny if the center diff was 1.1:1?

    06 STi = 3.9 Final Drive
    06 WRX = 3.7 Final Drive

I'm not the most astute with all this. So... do you have to swap the rear diff?

So is the 06 WRX rear end different from the 02-05 WRX rear end? If the 06 STi tranny is 1.1:1 then it should be a direct swap into an 02-05, and I thought an 06 but if the rear end is different thats a whole nother story.

Good to know. I did not know they changed the 06 rear end. Id personally look for an 07 tranny becasue of the gearing but heck if the 06s swap in, a 6spd is a 6spd

    04-05 STi:
    ------------
    Final Drive / Front Drive = 3.9
    Center Diff = 1:1
    Rear Diff = 3.9

    O2-05 WRX:
    --------------
    Final Drive / Front Drive = 3.9
    Center Diff = 1.1 : 1
    Rear Diff = 3.54

    06 STI:
    --------
    Final Drive / Front Drive = 3.9
    Center Diff = 1.1 : 1
    Rear Diff = 3.54

    06 WRX:
    ----------
    Final Drive / Front Drive = 3.7
    Center Diff = 1:1
    Rear Diff = 3.7

You can see how an 06----->06 is not an entirely straight swap. However 06 STI ----> 02-05 WRX IS a straight swap.

If the front drive ratio and rear drive ratio don't match, you'll get "binding". Either the teeth will strip, shear, skip, or all of the above.

Would you be interested in doing another 6spd wagon swap? I'm running a 20G wagon as well out in Woodland Hills.

Would this be a drop off or everything done at your place? Either way it will take a solid 20+ hrs.

I can say i would consider it.

I'm still looking for parts, but looking for a bring everything and do it in a weekend type of thing. I don't have space at my place to do it here. I am asking Nocturnal as well since he says it would only take a few hours. I'd like to do an 07 tranny but will probably end up with an 06.

A few hours is a bit of a stretch....more like an entire day. A skilled mechanic (like Garage Tuning) takes 6 hrs to do clutch/transmission swap. it's nice Nocturnal has access to a lift and his warehouse is VERY roomy.

My estimates were based on using simple jackstands and basically doing a lot of deadlifting, transmission jacking, all by myself lying down under a car.

As long as all the parts are there & it mates up......go for it! Me, Nocturnal, all 3 of us, whatever...

I'm definately game for a 3 person install, both of you have great experience in doing it and I'm used to engine swaps, etc.. so it should be a breeze. Now I just need some help sourcing parts at a good price.
