    Unhappy transmission overfill question

    Hi folks,

    I overfilled my 2011 wrx tranny by about 1" past dipstick F mark. Interestingly, I only added 3.6qt of extra S. I took the car for a short drive, and noticed the fluid is full of tiny bubbles. What is the best way to get the extra fluid out? How much would a shop charge to correct this? Will my transmission blow seals and leak at the axles if I don't remove extra fluid?

    In my freak out attempt to fix, I used an old hose (I typically use this hose to drain engine oil) to try and syphon some fluid out. I wiped the outside of the hose clean and stuck it down the fill pipe, but the inside had remnants of used 5w30. Assuming a few ml's of this leaked back into my transmission, is this a big deal? I couldnt actually get any fluid to come up, so this method did not work for me.

    If the gearbox has not changed it is vented and does not use a pump. If so -- but only if so -- I do not see a problem.

    I ended up taking 0.6qt out, now I'm at the top of F. This means total fluid added is around 3.1qt.

    Do you see any problems arising from me using a hose that had old 5w30 oil inside to do the syphoning?

    If it were my car I would not worry. You're talking about less than 1% by volume.

    I have seldom been able to add more than just over 3 qt of gear oil. Capacity is higher but I think the viscosity plus relatively low temperatures makes it hard to do a full drain.

    Anyway I'd not be worried.
