The WRX gear box is chunky peanut butter... You have to be both forceful and precise.. When ever I drive other cars I find myself using way too much force. I kinda like it though, it's direct and engaging, you *know* when you're in gear. I did have one or two occasions of first gear being a wanker, and I have to do the reverse shuffle, but every other gear plays nice. Well except for 3rd... 3rd is my main offender, it's ubbberr chunky, especially in the winter.

well this is my first post!!! and i just bought a 2013 WRX hatch!!! (5 door if you will) and i have been surfing the web trying to find more info on this subject and glad its not just mine that does this... first can be a REAL B*&$%!!! first thing in the morning after letting my car warm up a bit before i drive it trying to get into first when just rolling (under 5MPH) IT WILL NOT GO!!!! im a marine but some things im very gentle with and my stick is one of them :P i consider myself a better than most driver, even the sales person was like you have the ability to shift the car better than most is this your first subby? and of course it is... but im really hoping that after a few k miles it will warm up to me... only at 140 miles at the moment but yes chunky peanutbutter was a great way to decribe it lol

Double-clutch to first on any moving downshift. It's the only way to be sure.

Aside from that, mine is perfect into all other gears except 5th which seems to have slow synchro, so slow that I have to blip the throttle to rev match... that's pretty sad.
