    bad clutch?????

    i have an 06 wrx with 58000...

waiting in traffic today going up on a steep hill and i think my clutch started to burn out. it started to smell very very bad like brakes but much worse. after i reached the top of the hill there was a lot of play in the clutch, (very very soft feeling). after a few hours of no driving i started to notice a severe shake/ sputter upon disengagement of the clutch (only in first gear did this happen). i would go and by time the clutch was almost fully disengaged there would be a very harsh shake and sputter which i think might be my clutch going out.

am i way off or does anybody know of anything else that this might be???

if it is indeed a bad clutch what is a good clutch that anyone recommends???
