I've actually thought of making this exact thread, sad to see there isn't any replies as of yet... It would be interesting to see if certain fluids dont show up in this list... I predict that shockproof will NOT be showing up in this thread much, seems to be the choice for people w/ intact over 300WHP 5mts

This thread would be more useful if it asked, "what fluid were you using when you did NOT break your tranny/"

are you looking for some magic fluid that cant break trannys?

IMO its drivers who break trannys not fluids.

This question should be answered once all the data is posted.

are you looking for some magic fluid that cant break trannys?
Just trying to amass as much information as possible so people can make educated decisions and trends can be identified. Its science my good man not magic,

IMO its drivers who break trannys not fluids.

Surely it goes beyond whether there is an operator or not.

I will shut up now and await your interpretation of the results.

Could you add the year WRX? I would say to just list 2.0L or 2.5L but '06 and '07 have different ratios, different final drive, etc. But then again '03's got the wider gears midway through the model year, etc. so I guess it's still not going to be perfectly accurate.

    Good thread.

    Meh.

Maybe a thread that is titled "What fluid were you using when you blew your synchro"

Shredding gears has nothing to do with fluid. Shredding bearings and synchros does.

    Good thread.
I'm trying but people are withholding on the year when they post for some reason.

    Very interesting thread...

So far the majority seem to be stock. Perhaps the low mileage ones are warranty issues (ie, the tranny was bad coming from the factory and was just a matter time before it gave out, despite how hard it would be driven).

Only one USC, which bodes well as far as USC not damaging the tranny.

It's still a small pool, but it would be nice to learn that:

    1) The 5MT is not anymore unreliable than other similiar trannys.

    2) Driving conditions dictate more to tranny failure than do modding (within reason), or fluid choice.

    3) The failures stem from defects in the factory tranny (ie, vendor parts) and not from an inherit weak design.

I hope it can be proven that the 5MT is still viable and not a time-bomb waiting to grenade.
