Has anyone bought the "genuine" oe tranny fluid?

I've tracked down a part #, but the "catch" is it only comes in 10 gal containers (and costs $146!). I've used Shockproof in my previous 02 w/ very good luck, but the "Frankenstein" green/blue probably wouldn't look good if you needed warranty work. I've tried a few other synthetics w/ no luck whatsoever (me thinks too slippery).

    Anyone bought this before?

    Hey Sky,

    It is Valvoline 75/90wt.........

I watched my dealer suck it out of the big drum

I went into the dealership to pick up oem transmission fluid and they refused to sell it to me stating that it was too hard for an untrained person to re-fill. Please like a ****ing funnel with an attachment on it is rocket science. . . After enough arguing with the guy and then talking to the manager and explaining I was putting the trans back in the car and was fully capable of using a funnel he just gave me the fluid. IT didn't come in a 10gal bucket or whatever, it came in quart sized bottles with tips on them just perfect for filling the trans with the IC off.

That's what several of the shops use, but this is different- part # K0323AA093. Probably cheaper for the shops to use 55 gal Valvoline drums than their own fluid.

I guess I'd have enough fluid to do quite a few changes w/

There wasn't a lable/part # on those quart bottles by chance?

It's possible by the look on the cat's face he(she) may be responsible for no label on the tranny fluid

    Hey Sky,

Im gonna try some Castrol (Dino) 75/90 GL5 in mine I will let you know how it works,
Im waiting to break 10,000 miles first though (3000 to go) as I want to see if any metal drains out when I change it........ LOL!

The Castrol has GOT to be better than the O.E.M Valvoline....(IMHO)

    Wal-Mart has it in quarts

I'm not 100% convinced if the oem stuff is off the shelf Valvoline. My oe fill hasn't caused me any grief (I can down shift into first @ 20 mph w/ a proper double clutch- no grinding in any gears).

Let me know how the Castrol does- I know I've read dozens upon dozens of threads where folks have tried something new and were very impressed- within a couple of thousand miles- grind city. It happended w/ me w/ a couple of synthetics (too slppery is my guess). The Shockproof worked, but it's blue/green and not "officially" GL rated so it's a no go if anyone wants to hang onto a chance at warranty work.

Thus my "quest" for the "real" oe stuff

$145 for 20 liters- should do 4-5 full changes (including rear diff).

    Wow, thats huge!!

Is that the updated so called "trouble tranny" fluid I've heard some dealerships are using? If so, I've heard its gotten pretty good reviews.

I'm pretty sure it is. It's defintiely shipped in from Japan- the vast majority of writing on is in Japanese. You might check w/ your dealer and see if they would sell it by the gallon? Don't let them sell you some cheapo off the shelf 75W90 for a bunch of $ though.

Shifting is smooth- "my" test is the 2->1 shift. With proper rev matching I can go into 1st at 20 mph w/ no issues (no noise).

Cool, I'll see if I can bring in a container and just have the dealer give me 5 qts of the stuff. I think I'd like to try that for awhile before going to synthetic stuff.
