Winter tires

Hi everyone I am about to experience my first winter in my WRX and am looking for suggestions on good winter tires. The guy at discount tire recommended some cheaper tires but when I asked him for something a bit nicer I was shown the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60 235/45R-17. So far I've seen positive reviews but figured I'd ask the WRX community their opinion. Thanks.

I have th eGeneral Altimax and can't complain. They're certainly not on a par with a tracked vehicle, but what is?! There are limits to any and all tires, so unless you're willing to spend for extra performance, I'm willing to live with the cheaper choise.

I use the Altimax as well. Fantastic in the snow and ice, lame on dry pavement. I think next time I'll spend a few more dollars and get a more performance oriented tire. (I say that because I don't live in a snow belt, if I did I'd definitely buy the Altimax again.

I use the blizzaks and they are awesome. I thought they were fairly cheap when i purchased them from tire-rack.

I too rock the Atlimax Arctics.. I'd go for a performance winter like the wintersport 3D's but I live in the snow belt.

You pay a premium for the Blizzak name. The compound that makes them good wears off after a few seasons, and you're left with the winter performance of an A/S tire.

I've run Blizzaks on multiple vehicles. I wouldn't again.

Hmmm...that is good to know for my next set of winter tires. I have run mine for two winters going on my third and they still look like they barely have any wear. Certainly much better than the summers! What are you running for summers?

I have not run the WS70s. Every Blizzak tire I've run, however, has been the same.

What are you running for summers?

I currently run Cooper RS3-S for summer tires

Gotcha. Just curious. I got mine used for a very good price, so even if I only get a couple years out of them I will consider my investment to be prudent. What tire do you prefer?
