Good brake cooling duct advice / pics 02-07

Greetings.

I picked up some OEM foglight covers with holes (I never had foglights)... to use as the air entry point.

I'm picking up a set of these to mount to the backside of the spindles:
02-06 WRX & 02-04 STi Duct Plate Kit [07084DK] - $75.00 : Lambert Automotive Performance Products

My questions are regarding everything inbetween.

What did you use?
What materials?
routing location?
securing hardware?

Most of you know me.... I don't mind spending the money to do a good job.... but if I can fabricate it, I'd prefer not to spend the $$$ on something by Prova.

Just the word "Prova" causes my testes to hurt.

Pics would be EXTREMELY helpful. I've searched a few threads.... but pics were minimal.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. 02-07 only please.

RCE offers a complete kit for the newer cars. You may want to check out their kit for ideas.

I've got the same kit sitting in my parts room. Won't fit the GDs from what I'm hearing.

What about asking that Lambert place since they sell the plates. They must have some experience.

That Lambert place makes the plates to mount the ducting to.... but all of their pics just have random sloppy ducting.

With 9" wide wheels on the front.... I'm going to run into serious clearance issues. I spoke with a guy that actually hacked out part of his framerail to run the ducting..... I'm not doing that on a streetcar though.

I'm thinking I might just fab something up out of aluminum foil that clears the tires at full turn...... and then just create my own fiberglass "box" to route inside the wheelwell. If it doesn't fit "perfectly"... I think I'm likely to have rubbing issus.

It'll be a good Xmas project while I have the time off.

They used to sell just the GD Ducts to my understanding... the GRs have the entire kit. The main difference I see being the fog light 'adapter' used to secure the hose to your fog light duct is made and included with the GR kit.

I still am, lol, just running into all the stupid little things that are common occurrence for me. And of course the PITA of finding the right STi. There were a couple here, one is retardedly overpriced and the other is one of those what-****ing-retard-owned-this cars. I suppose I should update my thread, huh?

Yes, I did quite a bit when I was living in Utah at Miller Motorsports Park (see video in my sig). Not so much here in Texas recently.... but I've been looking at several local SCCA events, as well as track events in Dallas.

Long story short... I'll likely only get about $15k for the car in this economy. It wouldn't matter that it is mint, meticulously maintained, and has $20,000 worth of parts on it..... that's just what it would sell for..... the harsh truth.

I just recently purchased some decent, yet still "better than stock" struts (KYB GR2) that should ease some of the tension on my neck. I looked at Dspecs, AGXs, and Koni Yellows..... but they are all still pretty harsh, even on the lowest settings. The GR2s are pretty mild, but suitable for the drop I have with my Tanabe DF210s (Which by the way... I absolutely LOVE). With all my other suspension modifications... it should still handle quite well.

Secondly.... I figured it was better to just purchase a commuter-beater to drive, instead of taking a huge loss on the WRX.... so I'm already looking.

Lastly... I retire from the military in just over a year. I plan on moving overseas. "Most places" I'll be able to bring it with me..... but some places (Japan) I will not.... I would have to sell whatever cars I have at the time. Do I really want to finance a used Audi A8 (Which is what I really want)... still owe money on it.... and be forced to sell a car with a lein on it?

Screw that.... I'l be making triple what I make now after I retire... and I'll just buy an A8 when I get settled wherever I'm going.

The Harley has been taking up every bit of time/money I've had over the past year.... so its kinda nice to get back to showing the WRX some attention. New brake ducts... getting the wheels powdercoated.. finally doing the suspension properly again.... just little things
