    I had DWS's on my 03 before I made the switch to Kumho KH18's in summer and Blizzak WS60's in the winter.

    In my experience, DWS's are okay in snow when they are fresh and have plenty of tread left. They have a nice ride due to a soft sidewall. Consequently, you may have to run more air in them than in comparable tires to achieve the same handling. They make a lot of noise while cornering under certain conditions.
    This is my first Subaru, but it isn't my last.

    There is no shame in spending money on good tires.....there is only shame in spending good money on bad tires.

    Personally, the cheapest I would go for winters is General Altimax WRX size (215/55R16) they are $102 about 500 out the door for rubber/tax/mounting.
