Timing Cover Leaking...

Hello everyone...Just fyi, I have a '02 wrx with not one mod and noticed this weekend while changing my oil that the timing chain cover is leaking oil.

Has anyone else experience this problem? Is this common for subaru's to start leaking at 40k miles?

I hope the synthetic I am using is not starting to shrink some of the engine seals.

Now off to the dealer to get it fixed before my warranty expires.

Seal incompatibility is no longer an issue with synthetics, so it's not that. If you are not using Mobil 1 (any grade), Castrol Syntec 0W-30 (only the one that says "made in Germany), Amsoil (except the XL series), or Motul, you are not using a true synthetic oil to begin with.

The cam seals might be leaking. This does happen; just go get it fixed. Should be fine after that. Others have reported the same issue at earlier mileages.
