Sorry to do this guys, but I can't for the life of me find official specs on the VF48. I'm looking for any and all specific information on the compressor wheel and flow rate. I've searched all over. Instead I'm finding this everywhere:
"IHI VF48
(250-325whp, Bolt-On)
This is the standard equipment turbocharger used on the USDM Subaru WRX STI MY08-15. The primary difference between the VF48 and the VF43 used previously on STI's is the more advanced bearing design. This turbocharger is not a direct bolt-on for the MY08+ WRX."
Anyone know what the flow rate is or where to look?
I don't believe anyone has published a compressor map for the vf48.. I can tell you it's going to be virtually the same as every other IHI vf turbo. They're all relatively the same size and flow very similar to each other.
For what it's worth, here's a compressor map for the vf24. The compressor map for a vf48 should look almost the same.
Thanks for that. So we're looking at about 420cfm max and about half that in it's highest efficiency range then.
Reason I ask is because now I have higher compression pistons, so in theory anything I do will require a lower flow rate than before. So I'm wondering what size turbo would be a good, conservative upgrade without sacrificing low-end pep. The 20G XT-R was laggy and power came on late for my taste. I know it's probably one of the quickest spooling turbos you can get at that flow rate, so I'm thinking if I do decide to do a turbo upgrade I would go even smaller than the 20G. I'm trying to figure out how the 16G XT and 18G XT compare to the stock snail. As far as power I'd be happy with low 300s, but don't want to sacrifice low end torque and spool. On the XT-R, my S mode was tuned for 17psi and made 330whp, and that was plenty for me. Honestly when i bumped it to S# at 21 psi it would put out 365whp and I didn't even notice the difference.
Thoughts?
