Just to bump this great thread one more time, I'd like to add my two cents and how I hope to accomplish avoiding boost creep. I'll also explain why I'm going this route.

I plan to keep the stock CBE and add a catless Cobb DP. I believe this will prevent boost creep by creating plenty of back pressure, but still set me up fine for Stage 2 due to the belmouth DP.

The reason I'm going this route is two fold. First, cost. Second, stealthiness. I realize people that live in states with emissions testing this is probably not a great thing to do, but for me it should be fine. Cost (all costs included shipping):

    For Stage 2:

    New Cobb AP: $627
    Used Cobb DP: $350
    Stock CBE: $FREE

That gets me to Stage 2 for under $1,000

    For Stage 2.5

    Used STi TMIC: $150
    Plumbing: ~$100
    Used VF30: $400

I'll be at Stage 2.5 for a touch over $1,600. Pretty amazing when you think about it. I'll keep you guys posted on progress and boost creep issues. I plan on doing this one Stage at a time and leaving it there for at least a month.

since your buying the turbo why dont you send it off to get it ported? since its not gonna be on the car it wouldnt really be inconvenient for you, plus you could by a cheaper downpipe and still maintain your price range

Actually, since I won't be putting that turbo on for at least 1 month, I may go ahead and do that. What's a good shop to send it to? Any suggestions?

i believe deadbolt does it for like 160 or something like that, plus you can get the intake side ported for like 40 more and i believe it will help it up top

Can anyone advise on this setup?

    Hey fellas,

i just got my Invidia V3 DP, i was crazy pumped about putting it on ...... until i read about the horror stories of boost creep. i was wondering if anoyone had any ideas about my setup. i have an 06 WRX the only upgrade i have is the stock STi exhaust. will i still experience the boost creep with just the invidia DW DP mated with the stock STi exhaust .... that is pretty much the only exhaust mod i wanted to do.

If i were to get an external wastegate, what happens to the internal wastegate? and whats the difference between a wastegate and a BOV?

Any and all help is MUCH appreciated!

Is your DP catted? If it is, you won't have to sweat the creep too much.

Do you have engine management? If you want the most out of your downpipe, get yourself some EM.

As far as a BOV and a wastegate = search

BOV vents compressor exit at IC to intake, preventing boost spikes.

Wastegate vents exhaust around turbine side dumping load from the turbo when it's no longer needed.

BOV is short term control, like a safety valve to prevent things blowing up. Wastegate is long term control telling the turbo when or when not to spool.

Hey VVVV thanks for the explaination ... i think i got it.

MBS623, my DP is an invidia V3 non-catted. the catted version is the V4. i put the DP on today and havent noticed any boost creep as of yet ... but it is kinda stinky. The waste gate flutter is much more pronounced as well.

What have you got cooking as far as engine management?

opps ... yea i dont have any EM ... i need to get a job first, waiting to get into the academy then i can spring for one. but that's later. as of now, the only things ive done to the car as far as performance is removed the "snorkus"(which isnt doesnt do anything performance wise), stock STi exhaust, and the Invidia DW DP with the O2 bung so i dont get the CEL. that's as far as i wanna go with the exhaust system.

not interested in doing the intake maybe get a K&N drop-in if i ever need to replace the current one. Dont need to do the uppipe. Probly do the tires (not rims) and coil-overs when i have some extra $$$.

i put my HID kit from my past truck (RIP) on my WRB, they are 8000K and they look AWESOME! i also got my Yakima rack system up there for when i go boarding, some people disagree with the look, i love it.

Mods with no EM is like standing in front of a hot naked woman impotent with no Viagra in sight. You've got all the tools, they just can't do their job.

Yeah I was going to say, he would really need EM to get the most out of that roof rack.

wait, doesnt a EWG solve it too ?

    The problem= Small wastegate opening
    The result= Boost Creep/spike/CEL/fuel cut
    The fix=Larger wastegate opening

    its not that complicated
Will stock turbo of an 07 STI and a regular catless Invidia V2 DP fit a EWG, sorry im n00b on this and I dont have clear where the EWG goes installed, i assume that it is between the turbo and the DP but some thing tell me that i am wrong

an EWG is mounted pre turbo to a EWG Uppipe. Yes, an EWG will fix boost creep but I'd highly highly highly recommend a retune for the most & safest benefits.
