    2007 WRX.

Technically a ton of Subaru motors will work but only 06/07 WRX motors will be plug and play. Any other model will require replacing the ECU or getting a tune.

Virtually any Subaru engine from 1999 to 2014 will work with the right modification, ECU, wiring, sensors, etc.

The only "easy" replacement will be from a 2006 or 2007 WRX. All other engines will require additional work on top of bolting a new motor in.

Subaru is a lot like LEGO, a ton of options will fit and work but, you need the right pieces.
