    Burnt smell

Hey guys, I just bought a brand new 2014 WRX and every time I get on it, it has a foul burning smell.... Maybe oil? Been driving a manual since I was 12 so pretty sure its not the clutch. Haha.

Are you following break in period. If you're beating on it right out of the gate I would imagine you'd have some funny smells

No one ever told me about the break in period. Could I have messed something up?

Supposed to stay under 4k rpm for 1000 miles. And generally don't beat on it.
    It's in your owners manual
And I wouldn't immediately think something got messed up but the possibility is there. Of course it is for any car

Oils on the engine burning off....plastics and chemicals burning off from manufacturing. Brand new many of them haven't been run at temperature for any long period of time...it's normal. Happens on most brand new cars. It will probably fade after a week or so.

If it really concerns you...it's a brand new car. Take it back to be looked at under Warranty.

I'd recommend reading the manual. It's got a lot more info than mentioned here, things you need to know.

Burnt Smell? --Nothing to worry about.
    Manuals? --Don't read 'em.

Off topic but as the OP's car is most likely fine and covered by warranty anyway: "Hot Rod" is vastly underrated. I thoroughly enjoyed it, great film!
