So as the title says, I'm having a thought that I want to dump the '11 WRX for a '07 STi. Any thoughts out there on why not?
UPs:
Insurance quotes are telling me the price would be the same there.
I'd be chopping my monthly payments down.
I wouldn't have to buy LSDs to put in my car.
Other off-road abuse parts are more prevalent on the pre-07s.
?
DOWNs:
Have to buy some smaller brakes to fit my Braids on the STi.
Lose the warranty that I somewhat have still on the '11.
Will have to part out my '11.
My bumper will need to be remade to fit most likely.
?
Anyone else think of anything else that should discourage me?

Hellooo '11 REX
the only way i'd trade a somewhat brand new car for a 5 year old car is if it had VERY low mileage, 1 owner, pristine condition.

I'd say it's worth getting the STi just for the drivetrain - it's a much better transmission, and the diffs are miles ahead in terms of traction. It's your job to figure out if it's feasible, given what you'd have to do to get to that point.

07 Sti is the worst year Sti built. For some reason Subaru didn't make all the engine internals forged so it's basically a wrx inside

One of them I'm looking at is a single owner car, I don't care about the condition of the outside of the car as much, just the drivetrain. I'm going to start pricing out the return to stock, mainly just the bumper skin and fender liners, shouldn't be too bad. ~$300 for the parts, and a shop out here that my buddy suggests should be able to paint and repolish my car for another $300. Still have all my stock parts, except the whole bumper skin. Just trying to figure out how to convince the wife to let me do this, lol.

I would go with the STi if you plan on doing alot of mods. Stick with the WRX if you just want a fun daily driver.

Oh yeah, it's definitely going to get modded, at least to stage 2+, just like the '11 is. Just gotta get the wife to agree on it. Ill make her crack though. Then I just need to see if I can get a dealership here to get it in there inventory from the other dealership.

Insert obligatory "get a new wife" line here.
Uhhhhhhh no. The 07 STi is held up in most peoples minds as the best STi to date. Also, all STi's are basically Impreza's inside let alone a WRX.
Back on topic, to the OP would you be doing the same kind of mods you did to your current car and making a monster truck? If so, I would have to say just stick with your WRX. Just my personal opinion but, I feel like you would be ruining an STi if you did that to it.
In the end though you have to do what makes you happy.

I'm wanting something with a little less of these damned electronic controls (like VDC), LSDs, and a 6 speed. That's the main parts, plus the higher abundance of parts for off-roading. I did a pros and cons list, and a majority of the list is pros for the STi, the cons were mainly: needing smaller brakes to fit my 15" Braids, loss of a warranty, doing a part out, the STi is heavier, my bumper would need some modifying, and it would be higher mileage.

If you're going to run it hard off pavement I'd suggest the STI.. just for the drivetrain improvements alone.

That's what I was thinking. Alright, gonna hit up the dealerships here this week and see if one of them will get with the other shop and start working this ****.
