I have a tdo5 16g turbo that I installed, its a simple bolt on, I also added a 2 core aluminum radiator, new ancillary hoses and a thicker oil like
from the engine to the turbo, the turbo spools a lot better, but when I hot rod my car the turbo housing begins to smoke up
I'm 2 sec away from buying a rebuild kit to change out the o rings etc inside the turbo because i recently found an oil leek but i cant identify
if its form my engine bay or the turbo itself, i have yet to take out the turbo and diagnose the problem, any advise on what I should do?
why does it keep heating up as appose to my tdo4 13g stock turbo?

    First off:
What injectors/Fuel Pump/ and Intercooler are you running?

    Second:
Who did your tune and what EM are you running?

A TD05-16G will spool LATER than a TD04-13T (not g) turbo, so I'm not sure how you figure the turbo spools "better." Also, why did you replace the radiator and how does this pertain to your turbo upgrade?

If the turbo is smoking from OUTSIDE the housing, it's likely from coolant spilled on the turbo. I was very quick to cap my coolant line when pulling my turbo, but I still got some coolant on the housing. If it's smoking from the exhaust, it's either from the turbo seals or from your motor. If you aren't tuned and don't have proper supporting mods, it's likely the latter. What brand turbo did you purchase?

Is this ever true? (I'm actually asking, still learning what's kosher and what's not)

And ps. I know the turbo itself just "bolts on," but I mean is there ever a situation where you can just put one on and go? Or do you always need supporting mods besides a tune?

Only true bolt on I believe is swapping the VF52 on current WRXs for VF48s from the current gen STI. The current gen WRXs have an adequate injector and fuel system to handle it. Regardless though, you need a tune to set the proper fueling up.

the turbo came with the car as a bolt on, it was a part of the deal , i looked into it and its a cxracing turbo, my fuel injectors and fuel pump are bone stock, what do you recomend in getting, because i may have to replace my fuel pump soon, take a look at my latest post, i slipped gears from 3rd to second, its all explained in the post, as for the houseing over heating, i took the botom flang off for the coolent line thats tricky to stip on, and noticed the owner before me put on gasket maker, and it only had it on one side, so it wasnt making a perfect seal, i took the rest of that off and put some of my own "red" gasket maker on let it dry, and the turbo runs great, no leaks or over heating, same thing happened with my tdo4 stock turbo, so i decited to look at the oil lines radiator lines etc, because i new by then it wasn't the turbo at all

+1 you need supporting mods for a turbo upgrade you cannot just "bolt it on" and go.

    Boom. Called it.

Wow if I'm not mistaken cxracing is an ebay brand as well...I'd not put that on my car. I'd spend the money to make sure your car is all caught up on maintenance and properly taken care of before anything, and then I'd spend a solid year reading and researching as much as possible to learn what is generally "appropriate" and not when it comes to Subarus. They are finicky.

Also, without even reading your other thread, OP...sounds like a clutch replacement is in order if you're slipping through gears (just starting to happen to me minorly as well

OMG WTF is wrong with people??

For the 16 billionth time: YOU CAN'T SLAP PARTS ON A CAR AND EXPECT IT TO RUN!

    The motor is probably demolished.
