Just the muffler? Or the 2 piece catback? If just the muffler, unscrew the two bolts connected to your mid-pipe, detach exhaust hangers, reattach new muffler... Replace gasket if needed. Not a whole lot to this. I would spend money else where first though if you have an '04.

The Catback part of the wrx exhaust does contain one O2 sensor. You'll just need to make sure the aftermarket cat-back you're buying has room for an 02 sensor. Either that or have some sort of engine management to clear cels. This install is pretty easy as long as you have some experience with tools. Just need some solid jack stands to put the car on, some ramps would work as well. Since your stock exhaust is 2.5 inches and this cat-back is 3 inches you're going to need an adapter to mate the larger cat-back to your stock down pipe. That is if you don't already have an upgraded down pipe.

Pactin, after re-reading this, yea whoops definitely not correct. My memory was failing me. The sensor is definitely towards the bottom of the down-pipe. OP, putting on a catback is definitely a fine place to start and will get even better once you move up to an aftermarket down-pipe. You just won't see any power gains until you change out the down-pipe and up-pipe. Doing just the cat-back won't do much because you aren't removing any restrictions, just going up another half an inch in diameter. Although after doing these upgrades over a few weeks myself I'd recommend saving more and getting the down pipe as well and just doing the whole install at the same time.

Thought so. You made me freak out a bit, because when I was remembering changing my catback, I didn't recall moving a sensor.

    Ya...don't buy that.

You don't really need pictures. Turboback exhaust swaps are generally pretty easy as long as everything isn't rusted to kingdom come *cough Speedette*. It's literally just undoing bolts, taking hangers off the car, and replacing gaskets, and doing everything mentioned previously in reverse.
