DIY: STi Short Shift Kit on 02 WRX

Just spent 45 minutes installing STi SS kit on 02 WRX.

Tools you need:
10, 12mm sockets and ratchet(s)
pair of gloves (optional)
jack stand and lift

Twist shift knob in counter clock wise to remove it:




Lift up the shifter console. Be sure not to lose holding clips.


Remove 4 10mm bolts that holds plate.



Two 12mm bolts circled in RED must be removed.

There are two additional bolts that must be removed. Only one shown here:

Both 12mm bolts are off:

Longer bolt shown here is a little tough to remove. You will need two ratchets or wrenches to remove this bolt as there is a nut on top that must be hold in position while subject bolt is loosened (this bolt came off of shifter arm shown above pic).



OEM shift kit removed. You will have to wriggle it out.

Put two 12mm bolts back on to secure bracket:





Impression: approximately 30% reduction in shifting movement. Very precise feel, especially with KB bushing. Allows you to shift from first gear into 2nd gear much faster.
