sometimes when i shift into 3rd the gear comes back out and ive also noticed that sometimes while trying to go into 3rd i have to give it a extra little push like there is a notch or something in the way

I recall having a similar issue with my 3rd gear at times in my 06 wrx. It didnt take a ton of force but it was a tad bit harder then any other shifts once the gearboxed warmed up.
As far as it coming out..never had that issue.
0-60 faster then your first sexual experience.

geez, sounds like the Honda 6spd gearbox curse to me. I hope it doesn't spread to Subaru.....

No....it did get a bit easier as the car got some miles on it...never really did get 100% easy to get in as compared to the other gears.
The good news is it made it 12,000 miles without breaking.
Might want to consider a fluid change to see what that does.

i had subaru change out the fluid to that syncromesh stuff they have in the 5gal bucket and after 100 miles with that in the tranny im still having the same problems....

I've had that on an old muscle car. Turned out to be bent shift fork. Might want to pop it out and take a look.
