Have you contacted your local dealership to see what a BNIB one would run you (to get an idea of pricing)?

Why don't you have someone take a look at it before doing something so drastic man

Wouldn't a shop charge a lot to look at it tho. And I've been told to just switch to a 2.5 sti motor and part mine out.

Compression/leakdown tests will tell you how healthy your motor is. That might run you in the ~$200 range.

You can do a hybrid motor (2.5L SB / 2.0L Heads). You'll need to get the heads machined, but it's somewhat popular for people whose bottom end takes a ****, but the heads are salvageable.

Ok and what kind of shop would do a compression and leak down test. Should I do that first and then go from there. Because I don't know if I can afford a 2.5 motor swap and what not. I'm in the army and about to come to the states from Germany to ft. Knox and I'm starting a family and trying to get a house ect.

Any garage should be able to do a compression/leakdown test, but a non-Subie specialist MIGHT charge more. Call around. Or if you're decent mechanically or know someone, rent a compression tester from a parts store. That'll give you an idea of your engine's health.

But in your situation, let's start with this: What kind of problems are you having and what's a lot of miles?

Thank you and have a safe memorial day man.

Here's my post in naisoc with issues

03 wrx burning little oil and blows white smoke every so often
Purchased my 2003 wrx with 230,000 on motor. Car runs good for the most part but blows white smoke every so often for a min maybe 2 so i shut it off let it sit for a few min and then it's good. Also has started to burn a little oil. Car has vf34 turbo not sure how many miles turbo has seen. 3 inch turbo back with invidia upipe and down pipe. Perrin big maf, Perrin short ram, ported intake manifold, ported and blended waste gate housing, TGV deleted and housing ported. Modded oem injectors 820cc. Has boomba fuel rails. Fuel pump is out of a Ford GT Supercar 285 lph. Turbo XS blow off valve. Car has Turbo XS UTEC in it and is hooked to ECU but hasnt been fully tuned jus flashed to the ECU. And car has few other small mods. Car hasn't been tuned yet for these mods which I know it needs but I've only drove it a few weeks while I was home on leave. I didn't have the money to get a tune at that time. And also turbo sputters from 3500-4500 rpms but only when already in a gear cruising and just stepping on throttle. From a dead stop turbo spools just fine. Does anyone know why car may be burning little oil and blowing white smoke and also why turbo sputters. Any tips or ideas would help a lot. I'm pretty new these cars and this is the first turboed car I've owned. Thanks
