    2011 WRX in Satin White

Hi there...this may be the saddest post I've ever posted, but here goes:

I'm considering selling my 2011 WRX if the right offer comes through. I will be moving further from work (about 70-80 miles round trip each day, due to potentially purchasing my first home), and I feel like I need a better car for commuting. I absolutely love my WRX, but I hate the idea of getting to 100k miles in 5 years. I feel like this car should be appreciated by someone who drives fewer miles a year, and just think that the cost of commuting in it would be too great considering the additional mileage I'd be putting on the vehicle. Feel free to talk me out of the sale as well if you'd like...I WANT to keep the car so badly, I just don't think it's the reasonable thing to do to keep the car.

So...for info/photos of the car, follow this link: ElVerde's 2011 WRX Progress Thread

The car has been stage I + AEM for about 5k miles now. Runs perfectly, no issues. costmetically, there is a small scrape on the underside of the front bumper, and also a very small crack in the same spot. Can provide photos of the area upon request. Otherwise, the normal rock chips here and there. All the other mods can be found at the other link, but some highlights:

    -13,xxx miles
    -Hella supertones
    -Cobb AP
    -AEM CAI
    -SPT Oil Cap
-Professional window tint with transferrable lifetime guarantee
-Kartboy front shifter bushing/kartboy delrin knob

I have every stock part taken off the car as well (with the exception of the original oil cap, which I dropped while changing oil and then stepped on, causing it to break ). I am more than willing to return the car to complete stock form for a sale, I just don't want to hide the fact that it was modded (however mildly) from any potential buyer. Feel free to make offers for the car in its current state (stock parts included but not installed), or for the car returned to stock (with none of the aftermarket parts included).

    I'm asking $26,000 O.B.O.

Again, I don't really WANT to sell and I'm not in a huge hurry, but you can get this car from me with a reasonable offer. Serious offers only, no tire-kickers.

P.S. I'm thinking about picking up a Golf TDI...seems like a pretty cool car for 40-50 mpg. But then again...it's no WRX

Haha...I knew I'd get a few responses like that. Honestly...I feel like I'm cheating on a girlfriend or something by doing this. It makes me feel a little sick. But my head thinks it's the smart thing to do, despite what my heart says.

I just posted this response in another thread. It does not make financial sense to me when you sell your new car, loose money on the sale(including on all the mods)lost the money you paid on sales tax for the old car,pay sales taxes on your new car,all so that you can save money on gas.Have you calculated how much money you stand to loose vs how much you will save on gas?

And how reliable is the Golf TDI?

The beauty of the TDI is that it is a diesel, and they are known to last well over 300k miles. The reliability on them has been very good.

Financially, I understand where you're coming from. This is why I'm not rushing around doing anything crazy on a whim. I don't necessarily want to break down the financial numbers on a thread where I'm trying to sell the car, but based on what I've already paid on the WRX, what I currently owe on it, what the TDI will cost me (including sales tax), and how much fuel I'll save on the TDI, I think it does make sense (I'm a financial professional currently in the CFA program, so trust me, I like to run numbers ).

My main concern isn't necessarily coming out ahead immediately (I may be behind a couple thousand dollars when all is said and done), but in the long term, I like the numbers. I could essentially cut my gasoline bill in half every month, have a lower monthly payment, cheaper insurance, and a car that will, in all likelihood, last longer than my WRX.

To me, it just hurts to imagine that my relatively high performance car will have 100k on the clock the day I pay it off...which significantly will reduce its value as well. If I could realistically expect 10-15k miles a year for the next several years, I would certainly be keeping the Subie. I just think, long term, driving the subie 20-25k a year is a losing proposition.

I am not going to argue with a CFA about finances.

I am a huge fan of diesel cars. The torque on those cars is fantastic.I myself was initially looking into an A3 TDI.But I found that I could not fit in the rear seat at 5'9" which meant that I wouldn't be able to put a child seat back there. And the cost compared to the WRX was a lot more although I didn't do the exact math then to see how much I save on gas vs diesel costs.

At the moment I'm just enjoying driving my car & tend not to think too much about gas prices.I have about a 30 mile round trip daily. And I need an AWD car for the winters here.

GLWS. There are a lot of guys looking for a 2011,so it might not be too hard to sell.

That's a bummer but you have to do what makes sense. I drive 32 miles a day round trip to work so it's not bad. If I get the job I'm after it will double so I will have to make a decision like that as well.

I would highly recommend selling the AP and intake because that won't help the sell of the car at all. In fact, I get first dibs on the intake!

Haha, I would honestly prefer to sell the car all stock, I just don't want to hide the fact that it was modded from buyers. You're on my list for the intake when/if it gets sold

Thanks for the kind words Rage...I appreciate it. I also like the A3 TDI as well...but I kind of fear they will refresh those in the very near future, and with the extra cost, I will be paying much more trading up to the A3. I haven't driven the golf yet (plan to this weekend), but I've heard very good things.

I don't really want to give up AWD either, but I'm in SOCAL so again, it's not a huge deal.

So, essentially, doing the math, I will obviously lose money (vs. what I paid on the Subaru + monthly payments I've already made) initially, but based on what I owe I will receive a nice amount of cash from the sale as well. With a similar down payment, I will net out some cash still, have a lower monthly payment, lower fuel costs, and some savings on insurance as well. Those savings are approximately double what I will be losing on the Subaru over 5 years, with a significantly reduced monthly cost as well. So, in conclusion, I will immediately be spending less money per month (although I will be taking a total dollar loss on the "trade"), and over 5 years I will save significantly over having the subaru for the next 5 years (even though the last year of those 5 years I will actually be losing money again on the Golf, as the Subaru would be paid off and the golf would not). I also would be able to finance my VW at 1.99%, slightly less than my current subaru. By my math, the real break even point is about 2.5 years down the road, but again, my monthly bills will be reduced in the meantime, so the immediate "loss" won't be noticeable.

Gas prices aren't really what bother me, as I can afford the gas, I just hate to put so many miles on a high performance car. going from a 14 mile round trip to an 80 mile round trip is a big difference, and I'm just trying to be practical.

Anyways, thanks for the GLs guys, hopefully this works out how I want it to. Otherwise, I WILL be commuting 80 miles a day in a WRX

I think I'm in shock. I followed your threads when I was starting to look at WRXs a year ago. You put so much blood/sweat/tears into that thing, man it's a shame to see it go. But hey, sounds like you've got a good head on your shoulders and know what you're doing. Whatever the outcome, good luck!

Haha, you guys are making this even harder on me. Trust me, I don't want to sell the car. It is by far the best car I've ever owned. It is not a reflection on the car not being good enough, its more of an issue that I'm not the right owner for it right now .I hope the new owner will enjoy it like I have, and you can bet ill still be lurking all over this forum for my car porn.
