The fourth generation 2012 Subaru Impreza has arrived, and to paraphrase Huey Lewis, the first thing you might notice is that it's hip to be square... er. Underneath its skin, the new Impreza says a few things that Americans aren't so used to – nor so fond of – hearing, like the fact that it has a smaller-displacement engine with less horsepower.

If that's the step backward, though, there are more than two steps forward: It's lighter, faster, more frugal, stiffer, nicer inside, has a better suspension and more interior room, all the while being the same size as the previous generation. Said Subaru Production Line Manager James Todd, "it's all upside."

We'll let you decide that. But in the meantime...

There were similar threads when all of your models were introduced, including the bugeye on Nasioc. They were all similarly hated and spat upon.

tail lights that protrude from the body are ugly.. it was ugly in the 60's and its ugly now.. I like the rendering of a supposed sti though..and I'm not completely turned off by the nose of the new hatch.. but the rear is ugly like a bald monkey eating his own puke.

Voted I love it just because I'll probably end up getting the base impreza anyways for commuting. 36mpg + AWD is what I'm all about these days. I've got 05 to play with and don't plan on getting rid of it in this lifetime.

That rendering of the STi is definitely a possibility since it pretty much stays true to the lines of the 2012 impreza and if turns out similar to that then I vote yes.

That's dumb the 2012's should look different than the 2011's.
what for? its actually quite dumb to change the body style every two years anyway, costs more in tooling adjustments on the assembly lines. Besides if they're moving the impreza line and WRX/STI variations apart this is the best time to do it.

I just bought my first Dub-Ex last Month. Suby Dub STI has been a dream car of mine for a while. Having seen the pix of the 2012, well lets just say you wont be seeing it in any Fast and Furious Films like we saw the 2011. The 2012 looks ruh-tarted!!!!

It's difficult to compete with the exciting looks of former base Impreza's.

Pay attention read the whole post first before making a comment guys the 2012 impreza is not
Gonna be the same
Design as the 2012 wrx the wrx will keep almost the same looks
Minus a few minor changes here and there but the overal car will look exactly like the 2011 did

I don't really understand... the 2012 on Subaru's site shows what looks just like the 2011... is the body difference really that much? It also says nothing about the engine having less power or displacement, and I can find no real solid sources for the car or even decent pics. I mean if they just changed the body in 2011, why would they change it again?

The 2012 wrx has already been released and looks exactly like the 2011 with some minor changes to the lights, the rear piece on the trunk and a few others otherwise it's the exact same. A few pwople on the forum already have the 2012 also so thwy can confirm this
