turbo question for newbi

alright.. what is the turbo in the wrx and what is the turbo in the sti?? can you swap them?? without any problems?? or are you better off buying a after market turbo?? and what is the gains from going from a wrx turbo a sti turbo?? if any

IHI VF39. Swapable with no problems. Read here-
ihi v39 OK for 03 WRX?

Yup. I like the Mitsu-based ones, not the IHI's, but to each his own. If you really want one you can probably find it cheap since they come on the STI's.

Stock Turbo ---------- 360 CFM at 14.7 PSI
I can't find the vf39 in there, but I can tell you a lot of people upgrade to a vf34 or vf22 (even that isn't accurate). Everone has a different goal in mind.
IHI VF-22 ------------ 440 CFM at 14.7 PSI

You have a lot to learn, but we all started somewhere. Learn to search more, then if you can't find the answers, post up and ask for help. Learn about your car first, then mod it.

Get the basics done first (exhaust/ecu/gauges) then worry about upgrading. You might change your mind on which direction to go. Don't forget 300 is the limit. After that, the wrx tranny will start to break apart.

sweet thanx... so minor mods.. alrighty.. rigth now im just learnign to drive it.. searching yes.. im apart of many other forums.. i usually search i was just in a hurry this morning... i don tknow what i want to do .. but i know i need to get tint and alarm first and for most

The stock WRX turbo is a Mistu td04 and the STi, as mentioned is a VF39.

As with any turbo upgrade in the WRX you must also consider upgrading the fuel, exhaust and engine management as well.
