Welcome! I just got a new STi 4 months ago.
Couple of things you should know.
1) It's a WHOLE lot different than driving just a regular small compact car. It's pretty heavy...I'm pretty sure you noticed that by now after the test drive so you have to put more gas and release the clutch slower or when it finally engages with the engine.
2) When going up hills, the car does NOT struggle at all. Even when I went up at 80-90mph it still has a lot of power (which is a great thing!). You don't feel it struggling one bit.
3) Once you break in the engine, the STi is going to be fun!
Enjoy and drive safely!!!

by far the best mod you can do is trade your car with mine. the sti is very poor quality. my wrx is SO much better that you should drive all the way to ohio and switch straight up. trust me, you want to do this.Originally Posted by fadedSTi

ok really, the sti is just awesome. do the 1000 mile break-in period right. really, the only things you need to know about these cars is to spend your money wisely, on real power mods...unless you want a blow off valve. the choice is yours, but first mods on your list should be
downpipe (do you still need a port and polish on the vf39?)
engine management
sway bars front/rear
endlinks
that will make a car that easily runs 12's in the quarter mile and a great handling machine.

how should the STi be broke in?
05 Black STi
it says in the manual, but i think its no WOT, don't go over 4,000 rpms for 1,000 miles. (unsure of 4,000 rpms, sure of 1,000 miles)

Bluerex47, You're actually right on both answers. Don't go over 4,000 RPMs and when driving, make sure you don't stay in one consist speed so you can break in the pistons, cylinders and rings.Originally Posted by bluerex47

Congrats on the purchase.
Like everyone said, make sure you brake in the engine properly and TBE/Engine Mgmt is a great first set of mods for the engine.
