    hey everyone

Just wanted to say what's up to everyone. My name's Ben, and I just bought an '05 wrx a week and a half ago. This is the first Subaru I've owned, and the first new car I've bought... but the car I learned how to drive on was an '82 Subaru wagon (which still runs and drives with over 200k on it!).

Anyway, these forums look great. I look forward to learning a lot about this car. I plan on modding the thing out eventually, but it'll be awhile before I have the money. Any suggestions on what I should start saving for?

    A new windshield.

If you want performance mods, though, uppipe/downpipe.

Haha, I read someplace that people are having problems with their windshields developing huge cracks from minor rock chips... do the '05's have this problem?

I honestly have no idea if the '05s have the same problem. They are rumored to have a stronger transmission, though, which, if you have a manual, is great news. In my opinion, you have more aesthetically pleasing wheels. And the standard painted sideskirts are a plus.

You should start reading throught the various subsections here related to performance and handling before you start modding. There is a ton on information here. Just stay away from blow off valaves and cold air intakes. Also, don't ask questions about these. You won't get serious responses.

Have fun with your new car.
