That's what I thought just wanted to make sure it wasnt some other place.

I believe AU got EDM's along with most of Europe in 2005 if I recall (could be wrong). No idea how to tell the difference.

    Is it a 2.0 or a 2.5 motor?

I thought AU got the EDM also. It's the 2.5 litre.

Never drove a standard WRX though, i'm curious - how much difference is there in the performance and handling from a WRX to the STi?

I dont know how much in common the EDM model has with the USDM models but it's a night and day difference. I had a 06 wrx and now a 07 STI and the cars are almost as far apart as you can get. The STI has a stiff suspension, more power, better tranny, better handling, more interior noise, garnish's alot of looks, did I mention handles better, is better in the snow/lose traction situations, and a little bit less "daily driver" friendly.

    If it's a 2.5 motor then it's a EDM model. JDM model would be a ej207 (2.0).

    Enjoy.

I'm planning on getting a 07 WRX in about 8weeks. I've never really owned a car with more than 120HP(lol). Would it be a bad idea to get the STi right away, or should I just get the plain WRX first?

Not to hi-jack this thread but that's a decision you should make off of budgeting and test driving both. The STI is a better performer then the WRX but it doesnt make for a wonderful dailiy driving car.

You basically have to determine what you want out of the car and can you afford it.

Yeah, sorry to Hi-Jack, but I didn't want to clutter up the fourms with a quick question. I was just thinking that the STi might be too much for me to handle. I guess i'll test drive both.

I'm a little nervous about that kind of jump myself, coming from a bottom-end Civic with I think 107HP. But I did go for the STI, I'll save posting my own intro here until I pick it up and actually have the thing.

    Congrats to WinstonWolf!

A lot of people might tell you not to go from a car with hardly any horsepower to a 300 HP Turbo car, but if you're a good driver then you can go for the STi.
