My order of preference is 2009, 2007, 2000. If this is your first Subaru then just get the newest car you can find, but do not buy the first year of a new body style.

Amen to that! 2005, 2007 would be my suggestions. (Where as 04 and 06 were new body style years)

The more people buy the 08 the better IMO. I'm not going to be one of them though, unless they do some revisions mid-year (this happened in late 02 and in 04/5 also). I'd think about the 09 5-door.

It's a nice car but it may also be more money, I don't know what the prices will be like yet, not to mention availability.

It's going to be tough to give up my bugeye though, I've got to be honest. The car runs great and the teething issues were either fixed before the production run I bought, or recalled or repaired under warranty.

I read in Consumer Reports today that they rank Honda, Subaru, and Toyota as the most reliable cars. I've got one of each and it's tough getting rid of them (run great, why waste the $, why bother, and so on...).

I'd buy a used '00 STi if I could find one (answer: no) because I like that body style, even if the car is crude compared to modern STis. I even like the current nose treatment, so I'd consider an 07 too -- but I think the 5-door is a smarter body style and in any case, the bugeye still runs great, making it tough to move.
