    newb and break in question

Hello my names dustin and I just picked up a 2006 STI. And im wondering if I could get some advice on the break-in period. All they told me at the dealer was to drive the tac no higher than 4grand for the first 500 miles and then after that only go up to 5grand til it hits 1000 miles. So im wondering does the break-in end at 1k or does it at a later mileage because I have heard of people saying that it takes 2,500 miles for break-in because of turbo related issues. Any advice would be appreciated thanks

Search, there are a ton of threads on this.

There are 3 general approaches - neither have any conclusive evidence of being better or worse for your car

    1) stay under 4k rpm, vary rpms while driving, and stay off boost for 1000 miles.
    2) drive it normally, with some wide open throttle, some boost, like a normal person would drive
    3) drive it like you stole it - some say this better seats the piston rings

I took approach number 2 with my WRX and kept the rpm's low typically but there were a few times I revved up to 5k+. I think its more important to change the oil/filter after 500 or 1000 miles to get all the fine metal particles out of the engine.

Its all subjective, and no matter which way you choose, your car will probably be fine.

just bought my 07 white WRX last week and heres what i've been told and what the handbook says. Keep the RPM's as low as possible. i've been trying to shift around 3K. the first oil change should be at 3500 miles. after that you can start doing them in the regular intervals. I'm dying to give it some gas, anyone near me at mile 1001 should get in the slow lane.

LOL I said it with a happy face though. The salesman told me 15 times to read the manual as if I didn't understand the first.
