    Old School Owner Newb

    Hi All,

Obviously I'm new here but I've had my WRX since September 10th, 2001...

It's paid off but has 91K miles on it. I have absolutely loved the car and will continue to for years to come. However, I'm here now because little $h!t is falling out:

Self dimming rear view mirror - dead
Driver's window - dead, falls down into the door
Driver's door lock barrel - dead, fallen back into the door

Hope to get her back into tip top shape.

    Welcome!

Has the door been taken apart in the past? Can you hear the window motor running?

Not that I know of, the car has been in an accident but the only damage was to the rear & passenger side.

When the window died it just kinda got slow and then just stopped working. No sound of the motor running. Now that the lock barrel has fallen into the door (even though I never 'use' it) I'm thinking that the window issue might be as simple as an electrical lead disconnection; and since there is no preload from the motor, that is why it falls down into the door.

Guess I've been closing that door too hard all these years...

The lock cylinder is only held in by a metal clip. Odds are it fell off and is lying inside the door. The window could be many different things. You could have a bad regulator, a bad motor, a bad connection, or bad switches. Odds are your regulator is bad. Even if the motor doesn't work, the window shouldn't be able to move by hand.

    Thanks Trainrex,

I'm about to get the service manual. Is the WRX door a pain to work in? Or can you get to most stuff with the panels off?

I found the WRX door to be easier than most actually.

The fact that they rivit them together leads me to believe that they thought they would never break. Unfortunately, it seems like that's how they engineer all their cars.
