    New member with an SVX

Just adding another Subaru forum to my list. I live in Columbus Ohio but am in Iraq right now. I'm a super mod on columbusracing.com and drive a slow, broken car. My mom busted the craptastic 4eat tranny a week ago, now it's getting prepped for a 5mt swap. I've ordered all the parts and paid an svx god to do the work, now I just gotta wait for everything to fall into place so I can take my leave, fly home, and pick her up. I have no real future plans for this car.. trying to save for a house when I get back.

I've always liked SVXes. Don't they have a 6 Cyl? Might be a good place for a supercharged Tribeca motor to hide.

    Welcome to the board!

Yeah they came with an H6 rated at 235hp/tq. Some were fwd, most were awd like mine. The trannies just plain suck in these things (obviously) but once I get the 5mt swapped in I'll fall in love with it again. There is a supercharger kit available but $7000 for 40-70hp isn't worth it.

what year and model subaru are you getting the 5MT from? i'm sure if it's from a WRX it could handle the stock power, but what about the down the line, after you bought your house, if you chose to mod? the 5MT is the only thing i dislike about my WRX

i realize a 6MT from an STi would be a pretty penny but maybe your SVX god can put PPG gears in the 5MT you're swapping in, that'd be badass...

It's coming out of a 2004 2.5rs.. told you I don't plan to mod it any further . However, from what I've been told, the only reliability differences between the rs and the WRX trans is that "the pull-type clutch fork allows for a much firmer pressure plate with less pedal feel" on the wrx. Other than that, they're both pretty much the same. I'm having a stage 2 clutch thrown in the mix also.. it should all be able to handle my daily tugs to work and occasional rompings.

I'm not building this 3500lb pig to be a race car. When I get home I'll probably also throw some heavy 17" rims on her so she looks nice.. and save up for a sports car like a t/a or something.

The car's all torn apart, tranny goes in tomorrow.. along with new clear headlight lenses (example below). The stock ones were all nasty and had that broken-up early 90's look to them.
